Enable Text Summary

Text Summary is enabled on a per-question basis. You can enable it from either the questionnaire builder or from the topline analysis.

SEE ALSO – Configure Questionnaire Reporting for additional details.

To enable text summary from the questionnaire builder:

  1. From the Test Dashboard click the Surveys tile.

  2. Click on [ADD QUESTIONS] to edit the questionnaire.

  3. From a Text question, select the Reporting tab and check the Enable Text Summary option.

  4. Click [SAVE].

To enable text summary from the topline analysis:

  2. Select the questionnaire from the left sidebar in Analyses.

  3. From a Text question within the Topline Analysis, click the Table dropdown menu and check Enable Text Summary.

  4. The Text Summary starts to generate.

NOTE – It may take several minutes for the text summary to initially generate. This depends on a number of factors, such as number and length of responses, number of languages to translate, and number of samples in the data set. If you enable text summary in advance from the questionnaire builder the data starts to process as it is being collected.

View Text Summary Results

If there are samples, click the sample tab to view the summary pertaining to each of the samples.

The following are provided in the text summary:

  1. CATEGORIES – Extracts common themes mentioned in open-ends and provides key points. Click the category to expand/collapse a list of key points.

  2. OVERVIEW  A short paragraph providing an overview summary of the text responses.

  3. KEYWORDS  A list of keywords from common repeated words or 2-word combinations that appear in the text responses. Click on keywords to filter the individual text responses that contain the keywords. Hold the Ctrl key down and click to select multiple keywords. The keywords highlight on the individual text responses for reference.

  4. SENTIMENT ANALYSIS  Categorized responses as positive, neutral, and negative sentiments. A total count of the responses for each sentiment is provided with a confidence score. The individual text responses are also tagged with their sentiment and confidence score. You can filter and sort the individual text responses by sentiments.

Text Summary Settings

The Text Summary can be customized to remove any of the individual sections. Users can also enter instructions to provide additional context for regenerating the summaries.

To update summary settings:

  1. Click the Settings button.

  2. Select which summary sections to display, uncheck to remove them from the summary. The checkbox selections apply to all samples.

Additionally, you can update the following:

    • Question Summary Title – Edit the question text used by RedJade AI to provide further context for generating the summaries.
    • Additional Instructions – Provide RedJade AI with additional instructions for generating the summaries.
    • Apply To All Samples – When left unchecked the Question Summary Title or Additional Instructions entered are applied to each sample individually. When checked, the instructions will be applied to all samples. Previous instructions for all samples will be replaced and the summaries regenerated.

  3. Click [SAVE] to apply changes to display sections or [SAVE & REGENERATE] to regenerate the summaries after updating the Question Summary Title or entering Additional Prompt Instructions.

NOTE – Instructions can be entered in any support language, although you are likely to get better results when using a natively support language. Large language models (LLMs) may provide different results when regenerated multiple times, so the summaries for the same responses may have different outputs but with similar meaning. Results may also vary depending on the type of instructions entered and how well the AI models can understand them:

Instructions that work with a reasonably high rate of success:
    • Asking about, limiting to, or emphasizing on a specific part of the responses (appearance, flavor, texture, etc.)
    • Asking to use a certain tone or style (professional, casual, friendly, etc.) in the summary results.

Instructions that have a low/little rate of success:

    • Asking to provide translations. For example, if you say “Give me the summary in French” when the responses are in German. There are specific instructions that tune the response to only be summarized in the given locale. Instead, you should change your questionnaire language settings so that responses are run through the translation process then summarized in that language.
    • Asking it to do math. If you ask “include the exact number of how many people liked...”, it can’t do math and will likely result in a hallucination.
    • Asking for HTML/Markup. These responses are serialized in a certain way, and it may throw an error.

Selected Language and Translations

Text Summary is generated in the test's default language. If more than one language is available in the test, the individual responses are automatically translated to the test's default language before being processed by the AI models.

The individual text responses display in their Original Locale (survey language they were collected under) by default. You can choose to display the individual responses translated to the test's default language. You can switch default languages from the test's questionnaires list then regenerate the text summary as desired. See Work With Languages - Set Default Language

Text summary is available for all Supported Languages. The following languages are natively supported by RedJade AI models:

  • English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Dutch, Hungarian, Indonesian, Malay, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian

All other languages are first translated to English, summarized in English, then the summary is translated back to the test's default language.

NOTE – When only one language exists in the test, the summary is generated in that language and the language selection dropdown field is not available.

To choose which language to display the individual responses in:

  1. From a Text question within the Topline Analysis click the Table dropdown menu, then click the language selection field to choose which language to display responses in.

Download the Text Summary Results

The Text Summary can be downloaded to Excel and PowerPoint. When Text Summary is enabled it is automatically included in the Topline Excel download. Optionally, choose to include it in the Topline PowerPoint download.

To download the text summary to Excel:

  1. Click the download button from the Topline Analysis section and choose to Download Excel.

All servers are located in the EEA for GDPR-compliance.

What languages does the text summary feature support?
Text summary is available for all Supported Languages. The following languages are natively supported by RedJade AI models:

  • English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Dutch, Hungarian, Indonesian, Malay, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian

All other languages are available via third-party translation service, Google Cloud Translate EU-endpoint. See also Google Cloud Translate – Data Usage FAQ for additional details.

No. RedJade does not use any of your data for any purpose except to provide you with the summary results.

Can I disable access to RedJade AI Text Summary feature?

Yes. Contact support@redjade.net and we can disable the feature for your entire organization upon request.

How do you minimize hallucinations?
AI hallucinations occur when an AI system generates incorrect, misleading, or nonsensical information. Even with the biggest large language models (LLMs), it's impossible to completely guarantee that no hallucinations will occur. However, there are still careful steps that can be taken to ensure that your summary is as accurate as possible. In the generated keywords, we provide a verified count of the number of occurrences of each word in the responses. We have also done careful fine-tuning and extensive internal tests to result in consistently accurate output in the categories and overview.
