Triggers may be applied to questions, page elements and pages. A Trigger is a logical condition that must be satisfied for the question, page element or page to be presented to a participant during a survey. When you add a trigger you specify the trigger type and conditions.

Multiple triggers are allowed. When multiple triggers are added they form an "and" statement, whereby the parameters from all triggers in the set need to be true for the trigger to apply.

The Questionnaire Builder includes five trigger types. The conditions and other options that display vary based on the trigger type selected.

Following are the types of triggers:

  • Question – Displays a drop-down list of questions in the questionnaire. The triggering questions are listed by the instructions and question text. The triggering question should precede the triggered item being edited. The answers and answer conditions depend on the selected triggering questions. Only the following question types may be referenced in triggers: Single Selection, Dropdown Select, Multiple Selection, Numeric, Line Scale, Single Selection Grid, Multiple Selection Grid, Preference.

  • Demographic – Displays a multiple selection list of demographics for the selected demographic category. The demographics and categories include all that exist for the test.

  • Sample – Displays a multiple selection list of samples.

  • Position – Displays a list of serving positions from the design block. A design block must first be created before position and day triggers are available.

  • Day – Displays a list of serving days from the design block.

The Answer Conditions and Answers depend upon the selected triggering question.
