The Star Rating question lets participants answer using a visual scale of star icons. It can be customized to use heart or thumb icons instead, specify the number of icons, and choose the icon's color. A Star Rating Grid question type is also available to rate multiple items. 


The star rating question is compatible with desktops, tablets and mobile touchscreen devises.


To add a star rating question:

  1. Create a questionnaire and click on [ADD QUESTIONS].
     

  2. Select the Star Rating or Star Rating Grid question from the Basic Library, Specialty Questions folder and click on the [+] to add it to your questionnaire.



  3. Click on the Star Rating question to open the configuration window. Enter the question in the Question Text Box. Use the editing toolbar to format question text as desired.



  4. For the Star Rating Grid, click on [+GROUP] to add the items that will be evaluated in the question. Enter the Group Names. You can choose to Randomize the order of groups for Grid question.

    Click on the red X to Delete Group. Click and hold the ⁝ icon to drag and Reorder Groups.



  5. Optionally, add Labels that display based rating score position value. The label can be configured above or below the icons and displays at the mid-point along the scale. You can REMOVE them all if you prefer no labels display.



  6. Under the OPTIONS tab to the right, configure the available configuration options:


    • Icon Count – Choose to display between1 and 10 icons to display on the scale.
    • Step Value – Allows partial fill (i.e. 0.5 for half-stars). The default step value is 1, which fills/selects the full icon.
    • Allow 0 Stars – Allows participants to provide a 0 rating.
    • Question Text Placement – Choose to display the question text above or to the left of the icons.
    • Icon – Select the type of icon to use in the scale. Available choices are Stars, Hearts, or Thumbs Up.
    • Icon Color – Customize the color fill for the icons.
    • Show Answer Value – Choose to display the rating score value at the mid-point along the top of the scale. For example "1 / 5" displays if 1-star of a 5-star rating scale was selected. 
    • Group Randomization – For the star rating grid you can choose to randomize the order the groups display.


  7. Click anywhere off the window to close it. The question updates on the page.



  8. Click on [PREVIEW] to review an example of how the question appears for consumers.


    • Click along the icons to provide a rating. You can either click an icon directly, or click-and-drag along the icons to adjust the rating.
    • The icon's color fill up to the selected rating score on the scale.
    • Optionally, if Labels are added or Show Answer Values is enabled it displays at the mid-point along the scale.
    • Optionally, if Allow 0 Stars is enabled click-and-drag out to the left of the first icon. The rating is scored a 0 and the icon color is left unfilled.

  9. When finished with the questionnaire, click on the X in the upper-right corner of a questionnaire builder to close it. If you have outstanding changes, you will be prompted to save. RedJade returns you to the Surveys page for the test.
