Participant answers by clicking an attribute on the sensory wheel, then selecting a response on a rating scale about their perceived intensity of the attribute.
The sensory wheel question is compatible with desktops, tablets and mobile touchscreen devices.
To add a sensory wheel question:
- Create a Single Sample Questionnaire and click on [ADD QUESTIONS].
- Select the Sensory Wheel question from the Basic Library, Specialty Questions folder and click on the [+] to add it to your questionnaire.
- Click on the Sensory Wheel question to open the configuration window. Enter the question in the Question Text Box. Use the editing toolbar to format question text as desired.
- Under the OPTIONS tab to the right, adjust the Wheel Width, the Rating Scale Type, and configure the available display options:
NOTE – The same rating scale is used for all attributes on the sensory wheel. - Wheel Width – The width in pixels the wheel displays.
Update Overall By Child – Rating the outer attribute (child) automatically sets the answer on the inner attribute (parent) section, which is the "overall rating" for the group of outer attributes.
Limit Overall By Child – The value of inner attribute (parent) can not be scored lower than the outer attribute (child) section. The lowest outer attribute (child) score displays read-only for reference when rating the inner attribute (parent) on a line scale.
Limit Child By Overall – The value of outer attribute (child) can not be higher than the inner attribute (parent) section. The parent score displays read-only for reference when rating the child attribute on a line scale.
- Rating Scale Type – Choose the type of scale participants use to rate the attributes. Available options are Check All That Apply, Line Scale, Numeric, or Single Selection question types.
- Orientation – Arrange the rating scale to display horizontally or vertically.
Configure the selected Rating Scale:
Check All That Apply:
- There are no options to configure. Participants click to select an attribute as their response.
Line Scale:- Tick Marks – Specify the number of ticks and set the positions they display on the line scale.
- Labels – Specify the number of labels, enter the text, set the position, and placement (above/below) they display on the line scale,
- Width – The width in pixels the line scale displays.
- Start Value – The answer value for the left side of the line scale.
- End Value – The answer value for the right side of the line scale.
- Step Value – Set the format that the response value is recorded at (i.e. “1” would record as a whole number, “.1” would record to the tenths decimal place, etc.).
- Question Text Placement – Arrange the question text to display either Left of Scale or Above Scale.
- Hide Handle – Specify whether to hide the response handle.
- Show Answer Value – Show the numeric value of the clicked point on the line scale.
- Show Tick Values – Show the numeric values of ticks placed on the line scale.
- Show End Ticks – Show ticks at the ends of the line scale.
Numeric:
- Minimum Value – The minimum answer value allowed.
- Maximum Value – The maximum answer value allowed.
Single Selection:- Responses – Specify the number of responses and enter the response text.
- Show Response Values – Show the numeric values in the answer fields.
- Reverse Responses – Reverse the order responses display in.
- Reverse Values – Reverse the order of the analysis values only. Responses are not reversed in this case.
- The sensory wheel library template is preconfigured with 3 rings that includes 4 modalities with 4 attributes each. Click the > to expand the a row in the table and view the child attributes below each parent branch of the tree. Click an attribute label to specify or edit an Attribute Name.
Use the top toolbar for bulk configurations. Check the attribute(s) you want to apply the update to then choose the configuration to apply. Alternatively, use the configuration icons as you hover on each table row to apply the setting to that specific row only.– Expand/Collapse all rows/attributes in the table.
– Add a new child attribute the parent row.
– Remove the selected row(s)/attribute(s).
– Copy the attribute, including all of its children attributes.
– View or edit the available attribute settings.
– Undo the previous configuration change on the attribute table.
- Change Parent – Check/select and attribute then use this menu to move the the attribute to a new parent row.
- Search – Use he search field to find and jump to a row/attribute in the table.
- Copy Attributes to Clipboard – Copy the attribute table to paste and edit using an external text editor, such as VS Code or a Notepad. In the external text editor, indented text indicates a wheel ring. You can then remove all attributes and copy/paste the text list back to the question editor to build your wheel rings and attributes.
When editing Attribute Settings, the following options can be configured:- Child sections answered in order – The attributes must be answered in (clock-wise) order when enabled.
- Merge With Parent – Child section will take precedent and size to overlap parent. Must be only child of parent section.
- Disable Selection – The attribute can not be selected or rated.
- Required Response – The attribute is required and must be selected or rated.
- Label Rotate – The attribute label will display rotated 90 degrees.
- Ring Width – The width of the wheel rings can be adjusted as needed. If any attribute's ring width is adjusted it will automatically apply to all attributes along the same ring.
- Font Size – The font size of the selected attribute label can be adjusted as needed.
- Background Color – The background color of the selected attribute.
- Font Color – The font color of the selected attribute label. Automatically defaults to either black or white, depending on the background color.
- Click and hold the ⁝⁝ icon to drag and reorder attributes. Click on the – to Remove Attributes.
- Click on [PREVIEW] to review an example of how the question appears for participants.
- Click an attribute on the wheel to rate.
- The rating scale appear over the wheel. Select a response then click the [SUBMIT] button.
- A check mark appears next to the attribute label, indicating a response. You can click the rated attribute again to view, change, or clear the response.
- Click another attribute to continue rating.
- Attributes with an asterisk (*) indicates a required response.
- Attributes with a number indicates the order in which the attributes must be answered.
- When done, click [NEXT] to continue to the next page or questions or to submit the survey.
- When finished with the questionnaire, click on the X in the upper-right corner of a questionnaire builder to close it. If you have outstanding changes, you will be prompted to save. RedJade returns you to the Surveys page for the test.
