Discrimination tests are presented in a fixed serving order by default. The fixed order of the discrimination tests can be adjusted, as needed. A randomized discrimination design can also be applied by toggling between the discrimination order option.

Fixed Order Design Block (default)
The default Design Mode for a Discrimination Test type is Day Planning Mode. This presents the discrimination tests in a fixed serving order. The order of the discrimination tests can be adjusted by clicking the < > buttons on each of the servings within the Design Area.
To change the fixed order of the discrimination tests:
- Click the < or > button on a discrimination serving.
The serving is moved and the block rebuilds. - Repeat for each discrimination serving, as desired.
- From the Block Preview, review the design. Click on [APPROVE] when satisfied with the design.
NOTE – A 30% overage (additional block rows) is automatically added to the block. See Design Block Padding for further details.
If there are 2 or more repetitions they are served sequentially for each set of samples.
Randomized Design Block
A randomized discrimination design can be applied by toggling the discrimination order option.
To randomize the discrimination tests:
- Select the Discrimination Order option from the options bar.
- The Discrimination Order option is changed to Randomized and the block rebuilds with the discrimination tests randomized.
From the Block Preview, review the design. Click on [APPROVE] when satisfied with the design.NOTE – A 30% overage (additional block rows) is automatically added to the block. See Design Block Padding for further details.
If there are 2 or more repetitions, the repetitions will be grouped together and the design will have you serve all of the rep 1 sample sets before continuing to rep 2 for the sample sets.NOTE – If you wish to serve all reps sequentially for each set of samples, see Randomized Design Block with Sequential Reps section below.
Randomized Design Block with Sequential Reps
If you wish to serve repetitions for each set of samples sequentially, then you can accomplish this by changing the Design Mode to Preparation Groups and setting the Day Assignments as Sequential.
To randomize the discrimination tests with sequential reps:
- Click on ADVANCED OPTIONS and select Design Mode.
- Change the Block Design Mode to Preparation Groups.
Click on [CLOSE]. - Select the Day Assignment option from the options bar.
- Uncheck the Interlace Days option.
Click on [SUBMIT]. - The Day Assignment option is changed to Sequential and the block rebuilds with the discrimination tests randomized.
From the Block Preview, review the design. Click on [APPROVE] when satisfied with the design.NOTE – A 30% overage (additional block rows) is automatically added to the block. See Design Block Padding for further details.
