Sample lists and sample details can be imported and downloaded on projects. Download the sample list template to enter sample details data for import. The download template includes a key tab with field format, validation, condition, trigger and values information for reference when filling out the sample sheet for import. You can import files up to 16MB in size.
Before importing samples, ensure that the data is entered and file is formatted correctly:
- Use the downloaded template.
- All columns in the Excel template are required, even if no data entered. Do not delete, reorder, or insert columns.
- Column headers can not be modified. A field id in parentheses is included in the header row labels and is required to map the data on import, i.e. "Notes (3246)".
- Sample Identifier column requires values. Each value per row must be unique.
- Line Color and Blinding Code Bucket columns are optional. If left blank, values will be assigned automatically on import.
- Required fields left blank or with invalid values will result in an import error.
- Optional fields with invalid values will complete without error, however, the invalid data value will be ignored and the field left blank.
After the file is imported, if errors are encountered they will display on screen. Correct the errors and re-import the file.

To import samples:
- From the Test Dashboard, select Download Template from the [...] drop-down menu.
- The Excel template file contains two tab:
- Samples – use this tab to enter your sample data to be imported
- Key – Includes field requirement details for reference when entering sample data, such as field type, format, validations, trigger, condition and values.
When entering data in the Samples tab the appropriate field format and requirements must be followed. Otherwise, it can result in the import failing and/or missing field data if invalid values are entered.Field Type Format Text Alpha numeric open entry Text Area Alpha numeric open entry Numeric Numeric entry Dropdown Entry must match valid Values listed Date YYYY-MM-DD Date Time YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss a/pm Hex Value Any valid hex color value, only applies to the Line Color column. Validations – Indicates whether the field data is optional or required. Required fields must include a valid value, otherwise, the import will error. Fields with a Trigger or Condition are only required when the Trigger or Condition is true.
Triggers – A Trigger is a logical condition that must be satisfied for the field to be presented. See Add Trigger Logic to Fields for further details.
Conditions – Conditions are used to limit available answer choices based on previous responses on dropdown fields. See Add Conditions to Fields for further details.
Values – The list of valid answer choices for dropdown fields. When a Condition is present, the values entered must correspond to the answer choices from the Condition field. - Once the Sample data is entered, save and close the Excel file.
- From the Test Dashboard, select Import Samples from the [...] drop-down menu.
- Choose the desired Create/Update Options and Error Handling.
Create/Update Options: - Skip existing – Existing samples with a matching identifier will be skipped.
- Update existing – Existing samples with a matching identifier will be overwritten with the information in the imported sheet.
Error Handling:- Undo on first error – Samples will attempt to import but ALL changes will be undone if any fail to import.
- Halt on first error – Samples will attempt to import but process will STOP if a sample fails to import.
- Skip samples with errors – Only samples with errors will be skipped, successful imports will be created/updated.
Click on [BROWSE FOR FILE] to locate the Excel file from your computer. You can import files up to 16MB in size.
The status displays Success when the import is completed. If errors are encountered they will display on screen. Correct the errors and re-import the file.Click on [CLOSE]. The Test Dashboard updates with any new samples that were imported. Click an individual sample Tile or click on [QUICK ADD] to review the details of each sample. See Add and Edit Samples for further information.
To export the sample list data, select Download Template from the [...] drop-down menu.
To view a history of files previously imported to the event, select Import History from the [...] drop-down menu.
Click the file name in the Sample Import column to download and view a copy of a file that was previously imported.
Click on [BACK] to return to the Project Dashboard.
