- Only used for pulling in respondents from a third-party database. This is a rarely used feature.
Participants
The participants has three sections: Participant Groups, Demographics and Participants
Participant Groups
Participant Groups
- Participant Groups enable you to have multiple groups of people in the same test. Each can have the same or a different design block associated with the participants group.
- Additional participant groups are available in the following cases:
- On Site / No Check-in / Participant Verified
- On Site / Assisted Check-in
Number of Participants
- This is the number of participants you would like to complete your test.
- RedJade automatically adds 30% overage in the Design Block and in Recruiting.
Starting Participant Code
- This is the starting design block row number.
- RedJade defaults to 1001. Design block rows count sequentially up from this number.
- The maximum design block row in RedJade is 9999.
Panel
- This option is available if using On Site and Assisted or Self Check-in.
- Selecting the panel limits Self Check-in to only those users that exist on the panel.
- Automatically ties data to the panel (for Descriptive Analysis and DOD/DFC)
Demographics
Demographics

Schedule
Schedule controls when a test will be active and ready for data collection.
On Site Testing
- Testing is controlled by the day(s) and room(s) selected. The test will be active on the computers that are in the selected room(s). A "Room" is a group of computers functioning together to take surveys. The computers do not need to be in the same physical room.
Off Site Testing, Email, Anonymous Link and Packing Slips
- Controls when the Event Specific URLs will be active. Participants will NOT be able to access the test outside of the established times.
Questionnaires
The terms Questionnaires and Surveys are used interchangeably within RedJade. For example, Surveys is used on the Test Dashboard, while Questionnaires is used within the Test Wizard.
Language (Your Questionnaires Support)
- Add or change languages to your questionnaires.
- All reporting is done using your default language.
- The surveys must be programmed in the desired language - currently automated transcription is NOT available as the services are not accurate enough at this point in time.
- All messages a test participant would say (e.g., Previous, Next, This question is required) have been professionally translated to all languages listed.
Edit Test Instructions
- Edit all instructions that a participant views when completing a test.
- Automatically pulls instructions from Admin>Settings>Delivery Instructions for each new test.
- Participant Start: This is the start screen participant sees when starting a test. This screen is not visible for Online Email or Online Anonymous tests.
- Participant Code Input: Displays on the Start Screen - can be changed to read email address, code, etc. as needed to assist participants with login. Used with On Site Testing (other than On Site, No Check-in, Auto Assigned) and Off Site Testing.
- Verification Code Input: Used to validate an individual's design block row for On Site Testing (Self Check-in, Participant Verified) and Online Packing Slip Testing.
- Disable Multiple Language Selection: Used when multiple languages are available and you want to have the languages be assigned by location, event, etc.
- Consent Acceptance: Requires the participant read the consent form (must scroll all the way down) and click I Agree to continue. If the participant does NOT click I agree the participant cannot start the test.
- Sample Start: If using "Verify" for Sample Entry Mode, the Page Text and Sample Code Input Text is used. If using "Confirm" for Sample Entry Mode, the Skip Validation Confirmation Text is used.
- Palate Cleanse: This screen controls the amount of time between samples (in seconds) and is only displayed between Single or Multi-Sample (with Samples) questionnaires.
- Participant End: Displays once the design block row for that "day" is complete. Controls the time (in seconds) before another participant can test on that computer.
- Participant Start: This is the start screen participant sees when starting a test. This screen is not visible for Online Email or Online Anonymous tests.
Create Questionnaire
- Create a New Questionnaire: Creates a new questionnaire from scratch.
- Title: Name given to the questionnaire.
- Questionnaire Type: Controls the type of questionnaire.

- First: Drag sample(s) or questionnaire(s) into the First box to block these items first.
- If there are more than one sample or questionnaire, they must be linked or grouped together.
- Randomize: Items in this section that are not linked or grouped will follow a Williams Square design.
- All samples evaluated in all fixed (e.g., first, second, third...) and relative positions (how many times each sample follows each other sample) an equal number of times.
- Even Number of Samples: Fully balanced for that same number of rows (i.e., for 6 samples, each 6 design block rows are fully balanced).
- Odd Number of Samples: Fully balanced for double the number of rows (i.e. for 5 samples, each 10 design block rows are fully balanced).
- All samples evaluated in all fixed (e.g., first, second, third...) and relative positions (how many times each sample follows each other sample) an equal number of times.
- Last: Drag sample(s) or questionnaire(s) into the Last box to block these items last.
- If there are more than one sample or questionnaire, they must be linked or grouped together.
Grouping/Ungrouping Samples/Questionnaires
- Drag samples/questionnaires until the middle turns blue to group samples/questionnaires together.
- Samples/questionnaires within the group follow a Williams Square design.
- Drag samples/questionnaires out of the group to remove them.

Day Planning: Under Advanced Options. This is the default for all test types except Descriptive
- Add Day: Adds a Day to the Design Block. Defaults to an equal number of samples each day.
- Day: A "day" in RedJade is a login/logout session. This does not mean actual days. The participant may login/logout as many times as needed on a specific date.
- Day Serves: Customize the given number of serves per day. Available once a day has been added to the design block.
- Day Assignment: Automatically Assigned by default. Manually Assigned allows you to choose what sample(s)/questionnaire(s) are evaluated each day.
- Groups Can Span Days: Allows a group of samples/questionnaires to span over more than one day.
- Day: A "day" in RedJade is a login/logout session. This does not mean actual days. The participant may login/logout as many times as needed on a specific date.
- Advanced Options
- Wave Size: The Wave Size value default is 1, changing the Wave Size makes adjacent design lines the same. For example, changing to 8 will make Row 1 - Row 8 in the design block identical.
- Incomplete Block: Serve only a portion of samples to a given participant.
- Design Mode: Switch between Day Planning and Preparation Groups.
Participation Groups
- Sample Servings Per Day: Infinite by default.
- Entering the number of samples per day adds "Days" to the design block.
- One Day Per Group: Sets the number of days by number of reps and groups in the design.
- If there are no groups, there will be the same number of days as reps.
- If there are groups, there will be the same number of days as reps*groups.
- E.g., for two groups with two reps, there would be a 4-day design.
