Preference Testing is used to determine which product a consumer prefers among a group of two or more samples. The following example shows how RedJade can be used to conduct preference testing for vanilla and chocolate ice creams.
In this example, we have two vanilla and two chocolate ice creams. The example below will display the three digit codes assigned to each sample in the order they were evaluated.
We are interested in the following:
- Overall liking and JAR scores for all four products
- Stat testing within flavor and across the four product set
- Preference testing after each set of samples
- Stat testing the preference results by flavor
See the following sections:
Questionnaire
For overall liking and JAR scores, we are interested in running statistics within and across flavors. We create one product questionnaire to accomplish this goal. For preference testing, we are interested in the statistics within each flavor; we create one preference questionnaire for each flavor to accomplish this goal. We have also included a demographic questionnaire.
NOTE – The preference questionnaires are Multi Samples AFTER Samples questionnaires. Adding a preference question to this type of questionnaire automatically reads in the codes from left to right or top to bottom in the order the individual evaluated the samples. |
Design Block
The design block allows us to control the overall order of the samples AND which samples will be displayed on the Multiple Samples After Samples questionnaire.
SEE ALSO – Work with the Design Block. Only Steps 1-3 (and 7) are required to complete this project setup. Step 4-6 are optional. |
- RedJade will build a Williams Square design by default (each product in each fixed and relative position an equal number of times).
- Drag the same flavor samples together (drag one sample over the other until the MIDDLE turns blue) to create two product blocks.
- Drag the Chocolate Preference Questionnaire to the right-hand side of the chocolate block and the Vanilla Preference Questionnaire to the right-hand side of the vanilla block (the right edge of the block will turn blue). This creates the link seen below.
- Drag the Demographics Questionnaire into the "First" Box. This makes the questionnaire first throughout the design.
- Click Actions, Color By Group to display the original sample colors (if desired).
- Link the flavors to have all respondents evaluate one flavor followed by the next, if desired. Here, the respondents will all evaluate vanilla, then chocolate.
- Approve your design block.
