Once you have set up a project in the RedJade® Suite and added samples, you can create a test associated with that project. You can set up multiple tests per project and multiple events per test. When you create a test you add the test facility locations and specify the participant details. The Test Dashboard allows you to create, view and manage tests for a project.
The Test Wizard, a continuation of the Project Wizard, guides you through the steps to add a test, beginning with location and participants, then continuing with scheduling, questionnaires and design.
Test Types
The RedJade Suite® allows you to choose from the following test types, which have been optimized for the specific test listed. It is important to note that almost any type of test can be conducted, regardless of the test type selected.
- Acceptance – Typically used for affective or central location testing, though any type of test can be conducted using this option.
- Cutting – Designed for a small group (less than 30 participants) to use during cuttings or tastings. The serving order is unenforced by default. The participant can re-enter the sample code to access the completed questionnaire, facilitating discussion within the group. See Cutting Test Sample Confirm Selection List.
- Descriptive – Designed to focus on the sensory characteristics of products, though all test types, with the exception of discrimination testing, can be conducted.
- Discrimination – Used to determine if a perceptible difference exists among products. Any test type can be conducted using this option.
- Qualitative – Used generally for Focus Groups. Any type of test can be conducted using this test type. If Assisted Check-in is chosen as the Check-in method, a questionnaire and approved design block is required even if no survey data is collected during the focus group. See Check-In Method below. Additionally, if Check-Out is enabled the completed surveys check is skipped and the participant will be able to check-out through a staffer or through the kiosk station after a 15 minute delay. See Kiosk Check-Out
- Other – Other may be selected if none of the other types fits your test characteristics. Any type of test can be conducted using the "Other" test type.
Location
An event occurs in one of three types of venues: onsite, offsite or online. The venue type chosen has an effect on participant management and data collection.
Creating a test varies for onsite, offsite or online tests, as follows:
- Onsite – You will conduct the test at your own facilities. Choose from your own testing locations set up in RedJade. Onsite event locations have controlled data collection rooms with a set of Survey Taker Stations. The computers are registered with RedJade and each is represented by a specific room with a unique name. If you choose onsite, you will need to specify a check-in method. See Check-In Method below.
- Offsite – RedJade offers two offsite options.
- Hosted at a Member Facility – With the Hosted option, a hosting partner conduct the test at their facility on your behalf. The hosting site may already be set up as a RedJade member facility and have computers registered. See Create an Offsite Test for a RedJade Member Facility.
- Send a URL to a Non-Member Facility – The second option allows you to get a URL to send to a non-RedJade member facility that does not have RedJade controlled data collection rooms or survey taker stations registered beforehand. RedJade generates a unique URL to be used for the offsite event to register stations and access the serving console for data collection. Check-in is not applicable with offsite locations. See Create an Offsite Test for a Non-RedJade Member Facility.
- Online – An online test is used when participants are completing surveys from a remote location, for example, a home use test. RedJade offers three options for an online test.
- Email – Each participant is sent a unique URL embedded with login information. See Create an Online Test Via Email.
- Packing Slip – Participants receive written instructions containing a shared URL and a unique 4-character login code. See Create an Online Test Via Packing Slip.
- Anonymous Link – Participants are provided a shared URL that does not require any login information to take the survey. Anyone with access to the shared URL can take the survey. See Create an Online Test Via Anonymous Link.
NOTE – Onsite locations, rooms and survey taker station assignments are managed by your company administrator. See Manage Locations and Stations. |

Check-In Method
Regardless of the type of test, the next step is to specify how participants will check-in for the event. Onsite and online tests can choose "No Check-In" or "Assisted Check-In." Onsite tests can also choose "Self Check-In." Off-site tests are not presented a check-in option in RedJade, because this will be managed by the off-site facility.
Following are the check-in options in RedJade:
- No Check-in – Participants require no check-in and may begin the surveys on their own. RedJade offers two sub-options for No Check-in:
- Auto Assign – The next participant to sign in automatically gets the next design line.
- Participant Verified – A staff member will provide a Participant Code to sign in to the test.
- Assisted Check-in – Participant must be checked in before they can sign in for testing. To use Assisted Check-in, Participants must either be imported/added to the test or scheduled through a Recruiting Campaign in RedJade. There are two ways that participants can check in:
- Check-In Application – A staff member will check in participants as they arrive and provide them with a Participant Code to sign in to the test. See Check In Participants.
- Check-In Kiosk Station – The participants check themselves in at a dedicated computer or tablet setup in the reception area at your testing facility. See Check-In Kiosk Station.
Additionally, when Using RedJade to Recruit is selected, RedJade offers two sub-options for "Who can participate?":
- Scheduled (default) – Subjects must have a "Scheduled" Outcome from a Recruiting Campaign in RedJade or Participants imported/added to the test. See Campaign Outcomes.
- Scheduled or Qualified – Allows Subjects with "Alternate" or "Qualified Accepted" Outcomes from RedJade Recruiting in addition to "Scheduled" Outcomes or Participants imported/added to the event. See Campaign Outcomes and Add Participants.
- Self Check-in – Participants check themselves in as they arrive and sign in at the testing stations. Either Subjects added in Recruiting sign in with the Email or Code specified in their Subject Profile, or participants imported/added to the Event sign in with an Email or External ID (if configured in Participant Sign-In Strategies). RedJade offers two sub-options for Self Check-in:
- Auto Assign – The next participant to sign in automatically gets the next design line.
- Participant Verified – The participant has to enter their personal code and also specify a verification code/design line number to sign in.
Questionnaires
Each test must have at least one questionnaire. RedJade includes several built-in questionnaire types. You can create a library of questionnaires you commonly use and copy and customize them as needed for the test.
Following are the questionnaire types in RedJade:
- Single Sample(s) – One or more samples served one at a time.
- No Samples – No samples are evaluated. Common for concept, visual, demographic, as well as usage and attitude questionnaires.
- Multiple Samples – Two or more samples evaluated at the same time. Common for ranking, preference and napping. Multiple samples may be "with samples" or "after samples."
- Discrimination – Used to determine any noticeable difference between two samples. The discrimination methods supported are Paired Comparison, Triangle, Duo-Trio, Tetrad, Hexad, Two of Five and nAFC.
Design Block
A Design Block specifies the serving order for participants. The design block determines how and when samples and questionnaires are served. Each test must have at least one Design Block.
